Devotion After Dark

After graduating from college, Solenne Alcazar wants nothing more than to escape the expectations waiting for her at home.

So she spends two quiet months in the province with her grandmother, returning to the old house where she spent part of her childhood. There are mango trees in the yard, books gathering dust on familiar shelves, warm meals waiting at the table—and an abandoned mansion standing across the road.

Solenne remembers that mansion.

She also remembers the story her grandmother used to tell her when she was five: a fairy tale about a handsome monster who lived in the dark and fell in love with a girl who was foolish enough not to run. She always thought it was only a story.

Until she notices a light burning in the mansion's upstairs window. Then she meets him.

He is beautiful in the unsettling way that makes Solenne wonder whether she should keep her distance. He knows things about her he shouldn't know. He appears when the sun goes down and disappears before morning.

And whenever Solenne asks about him, her grandmother becomes strangely quiet. The closer Solenne gets to the mysterious man, the more the old fairy tale begins to resemble a warning.

Because some monsters don't hide in the dark. Sometimes, they wait for you to invite them into the light. And sometimes, falling in love with a monster means discovering that the most dangerous thing between you isn't death—but devotion.
