The Witnesses no longer judge. The First Reference no longer restores without question. The Third Layer has abandoned absolute finality, and the Fourth Presence has shown that existence can continue without demanding conclusions. For the first time since the birth of reality, every known system exists in uneasy balance.

But balance is not the same as permanence.

Across the newly opened horizons, entire regions of existence begin to appear where no system has ever reached. They are called the Endless Horizons—vast expanses beyond observation, untouched by Reference, untouched by Finality, and even beyond the influence of Refusal. They are not broken worlds or forgotten realms. They are places that have never been interpreted at all.

As explorers from the Shadow Court venture into these uncharted expanses, they return with impossible stories. Time flows differently. Cities exist that remember futures instead of histories. Oceans reflect lives that have never been lived. Mountains move only when no one is looking. Every expedition returns with different memories of the same journey.

Even more unsettling, some expeditions never return—but their journals do.

The journals describe a figure known only as the Walker Beyond Horizons, an ancient traveler who appears wherever reality has not yet chosen a shape. Unlike the Witnesses or the higher Layers, the Walker possesses no authority over existence. Instead, the Walker simply continues moving forward, leaving behind paths that reality itself begins to follow.

Lyra senses that the Endless Horizons are unlike anything she has encountered. They are not another system waiting to awaken, nor another hierarchy to understand. They are the limitless spaces where possibility has never been transformed into certainty.

For the first time, she cannot feel the Shadow Court guiding her.

Kael notices something equally disturbing: his bond with Lyra remains intact, but it no longer feels unique. Across the Horizons, he occasionally senses echoes of other bonds—not copies, not alternate versions, but relationships that reality never developed because no observer remained long enough to witness them.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Court struggles with its own evolution. Freed from rigid hierarchy, its members begin interpreting the Court differently. Some believe the future lies in endless exploration. Others fear that venturing too far beyond known reality could erase everything they have built. Philosophical disagreements threaten to divide the Court more deeply than any external enemy ever could.

Mira dedicates herself to studying the journals recovered from the Horizons and discovers a terrifying pattern: every explorer describes reaching a distant line where the sky and land become indistinguishable. Beyond that line lies something no language can accurately describe. Every attempt produces different words, yet all carry the same meaning:

"Do not mistake infinity for emptiness."

The First Keeper confesses an ancient secret. Before the Covenant, before the Witnesses, before even the earliest systems of interpretation, there existed a tradition among the oldest explorers. They believed reality was not expanding—it was remembering places it had never finished imagining.

Their records were intentionally destroyed.

Now those forgotten frontiers are returning.

As Lyra and Kael journey beyond every known boundary, they discover civilizations that have never experienced endings because they have never experienced beginnings. Entire cultures exist without history, living only in an eternal present where memory and possibility are indistinguishable.

Every discovery forces Lyra to question the lesson she learned in the First Covenant. If reality no longer requires conclusions, does it require beginnings?

And if neither beginnings nor endings are fundamental…

what truly defines existence?

By the novel's end, Lyra and Kael reach the edge of the Endless Horizon itself—not the end of reality, but the place where reality has yet to imagine what comes next.

Waiting there is the mysterious Walker Beyond Horizons.

The traveler smiles as though they have been expecting them for countless ages.

Then the Walker asks a single question that no system, no Witness, and no Covenant has ever considered:

"If existence has no end… why do you believe it ever had a first step?"
